9 Major Glasgow Events to Expect in Spring 2022

Springtime is one of the best times you can pay a visit to Glasgow. Not only are there wonderful natural and historical places to visit, but the city will also be hosting several outstanding events. In our previous blog, we had a list of major events in Glasgow for March of 2022. As a follow-up, here is a list of events that you can look forward to and buy tickets for in the Spring of 2022.

1. The Dog Lover Show

The SEC will be hosting the Dog Lover Show on the 2nd and 3rd of April, available to all, with children to be accompanied by adults.

This is Scotland’s biggest dog show and will include a whole day of entertainment from 10 am to 5 pm, a day of action and thrill for you and for the dogs. In the show, you will see around 40 breeds with a chance to meet and greet them. Dog charities will be also there to help you if you want to adopt a puppy.

It will also have lots of opportunities for shopping for your dogs, with a range of toys and treats for sale.

 

2. The War of The Worlds

Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of the Worlds will be on stage at OVO Hydro. The music will be conducted by Jeff Wayne himself, and the stellar cast including Kevin Clifton, Duncan James and Liam Neeson, as the Journalist in 3D Holograph will create a memorable night on the 2nd of March in Glasgow.

This musical version is the retelling of the Victorian dark tale of The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells, whose album was released in 1978. Its live touring started in 2006, and this will be the 16th anniversary of this lovely production.

 

3. Tissot Uci Track Nations Cup

Glasgow will be hosting the first round of the Tissot UCI Track Nations Cup from 21st to the 24th of April.

Britain Cycling Team will be showcasing their abilities at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome as a preparation for the larger upcoming event, the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships. 

Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is an indoor arena that opened in 2012 and has hosted mostly badminton and track cycling events. The Velodrome with a seated capacity of 2000 and a 250-meter indoor track has hosted some rounds of World Cup and European championships in the past.

 

4. All-Energy & Dcarbonise Exhibition and Conference

On the 11th and 12th of May, SEC Centre will be home to All-Energy & Dcarbonise for their forthcoming event organised by Reed Exhibitions.

All-Energy was launched in 2001 and is now the largest low carbon energy and renewables event held in the UK. The events were originally held in Aberdeen until 2015 when they changed it to the current location in Glasgow.

The events include showcasing brands and products by energy suppliers and clean technology providers, with a chance for buyers and providers to engage and connect as a community and drive their business ahead.

 

5. Friends! The Musical Parody

20th of May in Glasgow is the time for the musical parody of one of the most famous TV sitcoms, Friends. The event will be held in SEC Armadillo, and the tickets are £35.25.

For those who may not be familiar with the original show, Friends was a TV show that ran from 1993 to 2004 and was about a group of friends sharing apartments or living close to each other with their love adventures and mishaps. The musical parody now has all the old characters from the show involved in singing, dancing, and poking fun at the original American TV show.

 

6. Eat & Drink Festival

For lovers of snacks, and all eaters and drinkers, the SEC centre is holding the Eat and Drink Festival with the most fascinating local food and ingredients you can find in Scotland. It is the celebration of modern cuisine, street food, and new trends in eating habits.

This festival gives you the opportunity to try different types of drinks and spirits, learn new cooking techniques, and shop for the best ingredients.

The festival is from 10 am to 5 pm and lasts for 4 days starting from May 26. With the festival ticket, you are granted free entry to the Ideal Home Show, where you will get plenty of inspiration for interior and home design.

 

7. 25 Years of Lord of the Dance

On the 4th and 5th, as well as on the 8th and the 9th of June, SEC Armadillo will be open to the lovers of Michael Flatley’s Lord Of the Dance. It is the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Flatley’s famous musical, and one of the most famous entertainment tours.

Lord of the Dance is a famous musical that over the years has seen its glamour shine at the Oscars, in the Walt Disney World and various venues throughout the world. The 2022 production features the talent of 40 promising young performers with new staging, costumes and special effects.

 

8. Hacienda Classical

The 18th of June will be for Hacienda Classical, a superb orchestral performance with outstanding vocalists and special guests. It is a return to Glasgow for an event that enjoyed exceptional popularity twice before.

Hacienda Classical is a live performance combining the anthems of the old nightclub in Manchester with a classical orchestra, creating a unique soundtrack that has gathered lots of followers. With the easing of the conditions after numerous Covid lockdowns, the tours started again with an enthusiastic reaction from both fans and critics.

 

9. Billie Eilish Happier Than Ever Tour

Following her second hit album, Happier than Ever, the American pop star, Billie Eilish has kicked off her sixth concert tour on the 3rd of February. Arriving in Glasgow on June 14th, she will be performing at the Hydro, to her Scottish fans’ delight.

Billie Eilish’s fame started with several popular singles, and then she rose to further prominence with the release of her first album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? in 2019. She won several Grammies following the success of the album, and her second album and its songs are nominated for several categories in the 2022 Grammy Awards.
